Cáirde de hÍde

Set up before the school opened, it’s aim at the time was to seek support from the people of Fermoy for a Gaelscoil in the town, to meet the needs of parents who wished to have their children taught through the medium of Irish. Their efforts were rewarded when Gaelscoil de hÍde opened in September 1984 with 16 pupils. Today, 38 years after the formation of Cáirde de hÍde, the school has over 350 pupils enrolled.

Cáirde de hÍde has, throughout the 38 years, continued to provide whatever support they can to the school. It is essentially the Parents Association of Gaelscoil de hÍde, but the original name has been retained as it is parents, friends and families that help out at our fundraising events

Each year numerous fundraising events take place. These, for the most part, are organised and managed by Cáirde de hÍde. Cáirde de hÍde are very proud of their efforts and are delighted to be able to raise funds for whatever resources are necessary to enhance the educational experience of every pupil in the school

Some of the more recent projects that Cáirde de hÍde are particularly proud of are the Book Rental Scheme and the all weather pitch that was installed after moving to our brand new state of the art school in 2017.

Some of the fundraising events run each year by Cáirde de hÍde are:

  • Street Collection
  • Church Gate Collection
  • Inter School Quiz
  • Seó na Nollaig (Christmas Show)
  • Annual School Fete
  • Crannchur na Nollag (Christmas Raffle)
  • Clothes Collection (all year round)
  • Family Fun Bingo

Of course, none of this fundraising would be possible without the support of the parents and the business community in Fermoy. Cáirde de hÍde encourages parents to get involved and is extremely grateful to those who do give their time to help out at various events

Getting involved in Cáirde de hÍde is a great way to meet new people and other parents in the school. Meetings are held approx. once a month and are always very sociable. Involvement, also ensures that you will be in touch with what is happening in your child’s/children’s school

Through our Facebook page we keep you more informed of what is happening
